IT IS WITH THE UTMOST SADNESS THAT I MUST ANNOUNCE THAT I AM NO LONGER ABLE TO MAINTAIN AND SUPPORT THE NEUROBIOLOGICAL LEARNING SOCIETY. AS OF 1 SEPTEMBER 2016, THE SOCIETY AND IT'S WEBPAGE WILL BE CLOSED.

General Society Information

Currently, the "official language" of NLS is English, however, all webpages include a universal translation device to assist international members and public.

Online audio-video presentations ("meetings") and full-text articles posted to the Journal of the Neurobiological Learning Society (JNLS) are posted on our "members only" page (requires a membership access number) for one year and then become "public" (like this page, in that no membership access number is required). Abstracts of online audio-video presentations ("meetings") and articles posted to JNLS are always available to the public, as are all our past resources. Our membership year is always 1 January to 31 December.

Neurobiological Learning Society (NLS) is a private, incorporated, domestic, non-profit, charitable, membership-based educational society established in 2005 dedicated to fostering the theory, methodology, ideals and concepts of neurobiologically-grounded, transformative learning and instruction throughout the world. NLS is recognized by the United States Government (IRS) and State of Hawaii as a 509a2 public charity organization (EIN 25-1920731). Your donations, dues and contributions are all tax deductible.

All donations must be in $US using a major US credit card, US eCheck or PayPal account.

2. NLS OFFICER elections are announced via email announcement to the membership and occur during the first two weeks following 1 July. Elected officers act as Officers-in-Training from 1 July to the first meeting after 1 January, when they are invested to serve for up to three consecutive years. Officers must be individual Professional, Sustaining, Life or Patron Members, OR a single individual authorized by a company or corporation that is a Company/Corporate or Patron Member. NLS Officers include a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Meetings Coordinator. Officers may hold multiple positions as necessary.

Your current Officers are
President - Dr. Daniel S. Janik (2014-2016)
Vice President - Dr. Behzad Saberi (2014-2016)
Secretary - Ms. Setsuko Tsuchiya (2013-2015)
Meetings Coordinator - Dr. Daniel S. Janik (2013-2016)

Members can nominate any member including oneself for office anytime from 1 January to 31 June by emailing the society with "OFFICER NOMINATION" in the subject line, a brief summary of why this nominee is recommended, and at least two proposed focus topics for enhancement or change during officership. Nominations automatically close on 30 June.

3. NLS maintains a three to five person BOARD OF TRUSTEES to help strategically guide the society.

Trustees are appointed to the Board of Trustees as necessary, typically whenever a vacancy exists. Members may nominate an individual to the Board of Trustees anytime throughout the calendar year by emailing the society with "TRUSTEE NOMINATION" in the subject line. The body of the email should include a brief summary of why this nominee is being recommended, and at least five proposed focus topics for enhancement or change during trusteeship.

Trustees typically serve for five years. Trustees must maintain individual Professional, Sustaining, Life or Patron Membership, OR maintain authorization by a company or corporation that is a Company, Corporate or Patron Member. NLS is currently a domestic entity established in and governed by the laws and regulations of the United States of America; trustees must therefore be citizens of the USA.

4. The society maintains an ONGOING ASYNCHRONOUS MEETING to which members are invited to add audio-video presentations throughout the calendar year. During the ongoing meeting of the calendar year, members can access full presentations using a membership access number.

5. The society maintains an OPEN ANNUAL JOURNAL (Journal of the Neurobiological Learning Society; JNLS) which members are invited to add to throughout the calendar year. Abstracts of articles posted to JNLS are always open to the public; full-text articles are available to the public beginning the next calendar year. During the open annual period of the calendar year, members can access JNLS full-text articles using a membership access number.

6. The society, with approval of its Board of Trustees, sponsors special meetings and events that contribute directly to its mission. Our 2016 sponsored activities thus far include:

A Special Presentation by Dr. Lewis Mehl-Madrona and Barbara Mainguy of the Coyote Institute, Orono, Maine
29 April 2016 - Maui Room of Argosy University Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

The presentation from 9 a.m. to noon is free to the public. In it the presenters will address neurobiological support for and the impact of narrative medicine.

2016 HONOLULU WRITERS, AUTHORS AND POETS GATHERING
9 April 2016 - Parlor Room of the Moana Surfrider Hotel "on the beach" at Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

The "Gathering," open to writers, authors, poets, publishers, agents, educators and the public, is hoped to be the first documented and reported transformative-style conference/meeting/forum/gathering in the world. It is further hoped that, if successful, this will provide a template for similar transformative-style gatherings.
